How Do Solar Panels Work?

Step by step conversion of solar energy and its transmission:

Step 1: Electric field generation:

The solar panels absorb light rays from the sun directly and create an electric field.

Step 2: Flow of Electricity:

Once the electricity is generated, the electric current flows from the conductive wire to the converter. The converter, also known as the “inverter,” transforms the direct current into the alternating current.

Step 3: Transmission:

Once the alternating current is produced, it is carried to the breaker box, i.e., the main electric supply on the field. 

Step 4: Reverse Generation:

The meter reading will reverse if the electricity production is greater than the consumption. You will be credited for the electricity provided this way.

The Science Behind the Solar Panels

Photovoltaic modules absorb solar energy by triggering semiconductors when sunlight falls on the solar panel. The photons of energy (which are the sunlight rays in light form) drift and move freely within the solar cells.

PV cells have stacked electrodes that create a strong electric field when the positive and negative electrodes are placed side by side. After that, the electrons move synchronised towards the metal plates of the photovoltaic module (PV cells). “Energy Current” will be the name given to this flow of material.

After these drifting electrons strike the metal plates inside the PV cells, the generated electric current flows towards the conductive wire. Conductive metal wires enter the inverter, where they are converted from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC).
